#3.  Chia

Fully packed with nutrients, Chia seeds are among the healthiest foods on the planet. It is biologically related to mint, and grows natively in South America.

Back in the day, it was an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans. Actually, the name “Chia” is a word in Mayan for “strength”. With a relatively low amount of calories, Chia seeds are loaded with fiber, protein, Omega-3, fatty acids, antioxidants and calcium. Due to their compound, some studies show that the seeds may improve several blood markers, help improve exercise performance, and are very good for strengthening your bones.

To make things practical, Chia seeds are very easy to incorporate in your diet: Unlike the flax seeds, for example, you don’t need to grind them, and they can simply be eaten as is. Of course, they can also be added to salads, yoghurts, porridge, or as a topping for any dish you like.
