Top Rock Drummers
#2. Brann Dailor
This amazing drummer is probably mostly known for his being a part of Mastodon.
Even though he has done some great stuff in the past, when playing with Lethargy, Gaylord, and Today Is The Day, I think his work is at its finest and most mature in Mastodon. His growing up in a musical house with his “hippie” parents, as he says, who played Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Yes, and King Crimson records non-stop must have surely had an effect on his unique style of drumming. Indeed, that creative/jazzy free feel is extremely evident, as well as his somewhat unconventional use of drum fills.
This, by the way, is something he developed in his early years of drumming, when he jammed with guitar-players only, and learned to play along their riffing. Oh, and he also sings, sometimes backing vocals, and sometime lead vocals, while throwing his amazing chops.
