He is known to some as Meshuggah’s drummer, and to others as “Whoa, this guy is insane!”

Thomas’s technical drumming abilities and heavy use of polymeter while maintaining a steady 4/4 beat are an integral part of the band’s style and sound. His drumming has influenced many drummers and became a sort of standard for other technical metal/math metal/fusion acts in that vein.

He has mentioned musicians from heavy metal, jazz-fusion and progressive rock as influences, and his favorite bands include Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Testament, and Rush. His list of favorite drummers includes Neil Peart, Ian Mosley, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gary Husband and Dave Weckl. It all makes perfect sense when you hear him in action.
