Top Horror Movie Villains
#1. Samara (The Ring)
The Ring is an adaptation of Japanese Ringu, and is regarded by many as one of the strongest remakes of J-Horror to ever hit the market.
Many even consider it to be better than the original. The beauty here is more in the atmosphere than in grand visual effects, and to me, that is just what makes it work. This is what makes Samara such a great character. The clean simplicity and production of the film makes it almost feel as though you yourself could fall into sinister her grasp. Samara herself is quite frightening, especially in her cursed form (once she comes back as a vengeance demon).
Her scary presence and haunting 8-year-old-girl-appearance make her a classic horror character, but you can still relate to her in a way. Her whole purpose of creating the video tape was for the world to see how she suffered, and to make them care about and give her the attention she has been deprived of. She is brutal and full of vengeance, no doubt about it – But in a way, you could almost find yourself empathizing and understanding her, at the same time. She has her reasons, after all…
That’s it. I just don’t think they make characters like that anymore… Times have changed, and maybe viewers have seen too much already. Some of their innocence has been lost. So I guess that sometimes all that is left is to look back and enjoy the classics. Oh well, at least sleeping with one eye open never goes out of style.
