Neil Armstrong Lands on the moon – July 20, 1969

Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, Nasa’s best astronauts carried by Apollo 11 landed on the moon (Collins stayed in orbit around the Moon) on July 20, 1969. Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on it. The flight was part of the Space Race. It finished the plan set by John F. Kennedy.

A picture is worth a thousand words-these pictures are gripping and unforgettable because of the volumes they speak about the human condition – about some of the best and worst moments of Humanity.

Top Rock Drummers

Any musician or music lover in general, is surely aware of those great rock drummers who have defined the standards and turned music to what it is today. You may not know them by name, but you know for sure about “that drummer from Led Zeppelin”, “that guy from The Police’, or “Dude, have you heard Dream Theater’s drummer?!”

Even if in the end of the day, it is a matter of taste and personal preference, there is no denying that these drummers have earned their place in history’s hall of fame, and made a significant contribution to the world of rock drumming as we know it.

However, being a drummer myself, I am extra aware and attentive to the drum parts in each and every piece of music that reaches my ears. If a find the drum parts interesting in any way, I usually look up the drummer and learn about them. So with all the great respect and appreciation I have for the “classic” all-time rock drummers, I have developed my own personal “favorite” lists. Each of the drummers in it has done something, drumming-wise, that inspired me, influenced me, or helped me develop my drumming in a way.

In no particular order, here are my current top 5 drummers of the 2000’s decade:

#5. Thomas Pridgen

Born in 1983, this guy won the Guitar Center Drum-Off at age 9. At 10, he was already the youngest recipient for a Zildjian endorsement in the nearly 400 year history of the company.

At age 15, he received a 4-year scholarship to Berklee, after which he had already done some studio work with several Bay Area artists. The rest is pretty much history for this guy, as since then he just kept on playing, and hasn’t stopped.

He’s toured/recorded with various artists, including The Mars Volta, The Memorials, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, and recently Suicidal Tendencies, and played several clinics. Thomas is naturally left-handed, but plays the drum kit as if he is a right-hander. This actually sounds quite suitable to his creative and precise, sometimes-frantic, and very versatile drumming style… Seeing this guy is truly an amazing experience.

Top Conspiracy Theories

According to dictionary.com, a conspiracy theory is:

“1) A theory that explains an event as being the result of a plot by a covert group or organization; a belief that a particular unexplained event was caused by such a group.
2) The idea that many important political events or economic and social trends are the products of secret plots that are largely unknown to the general public.

“Indeed, all of us have heard of such theories – some of us happily accept them, feeling a part of something bigger, while others immediately dis or debunk them.There have been many of these throughout history, in topics ranging from religion, through technology and weapons, and all the way to paranormal activity. The following are the conspiracy theories I currently like the most, in no particular order:

#5. “Paul Is Dead”

The urban legend suggesting that Paul McCartney of the Beatles died, and was secretly replaced by someone who looks like him, started circulating in late 1969, three years after his supposed death in 1966.

It all began when American college students published articles claiming that clues to McCartney’s supposed death could be found among the lyrics and artwork of the Beatles’ recordings. The clue-searching went viral, and within a few weeks it became a worldwide phenomenon. Among the clues published in the article, you can find the famous explanation behind the Abbey Road album cover: All four Beatles members appear crossing the street, resembling a funeral procession: John dressed in white, like a clergyman; Ringo, the mourner, dressed in black; George with jeans, like a gravedigger; And Paul walking with them, wearing no shoes, indicating he was dead.

Also, there is the famous “Turn me on, dead man” message that could be heard if you play the song “Revolution 9” from The White Album backwards, and the “I buried Paul” sentence that could be heard at the end of “Strawberry Fields Forever”.

These have been refuted on several occasions, specifically in an interview with Lennon, in which he said the phrase was actually “Cranberry sauce” and that there aren’t any backward messages. The rumors have declined after an interview with McCartney in life magazine in November 1969, and the band members have issued a statement referring to the gossip as “a load of rubbish”. Nevertheless, the theory has made a strong cultural impact, and references are still being made to it, many years afterwards.

Top “Animals To The Rescue” Stories

Busy in our daily grind, it is sometimes easy to overlook some of the more beautiful things in life. The world is full of living creatures that still have that wonderful instinct of helping each other out in times of trouble. Here are some amazing stories of animals that heeded the call and literally saved the day.

#5. Heroes In A Half-Shell… Turtle Power!

Human beings are considered the most sophisticated animals on the planet, and are known to look out for each other. Well, at least in some cases…

Anyways, they aren’t the only species that looks out for each other. Some species even do it better than us. For instance, take a look at this giant tortoise giving his friend a hand, getting him back on his feet. The Sulcata Tortoises are among the most intelligent tortoises out there, and have a lifespan of up to 150 years. Talk about being old and wise… Without further ado, check them out. Because a friend in need is a friend indeed!

#4. (Not Only) Man’s Best Friend

Dogs are without a doubt man’s best friend. But that doesn’t stop them from also being other canines’ best friends too.

This brave Labrador, who goes by the name Robbie, courageously jumped into a river and swam against the current to help two other dogs. The canines were stranded alone in a canoe that was drifting away down a rapid-flowing river, and as soon as Robbie heard their cries for help – he came to their rescue.

That a boy, Robbie. Way to go!

#3. Stayin’ Alive In The Land Down Under

This 4-month old baby roo must have had one of those lucky days. A car accident had claimed the life of his mother, and his chances of surviving were very slim.

However, as soon as Rex the wonder dog came into the picture, the situation changed altogether. He discovered Joey, the baby roo, alive and literally kicking in the mother’s pouch, and brought him back to his owner. “He obviously sensed the baby roo was still alive in the pouch and somehow had gently grabbed it by the neck, gently retrieved it and brought it to me,” said Rex’s owner, Ms. Allan.

Joey was completely calm and ever so happy to be found and rescued.

Amazing!

#2. Jack The Pitbull To The Rescue!

It was just a typical sunny day in Florida for Kitty the cat, until the some coyotes roaming around pet mom Sheeree’s neighborhood have decided to gang up and attack Kitty.

Luckily for her, as soon as Jack the pitbull dog spotted the two coyotes doing the deed, he ran like a speeding bullet and fended them off.

“As I was walking to the door, I could see the coyotes over here,” Sherree pointed out. “One had her by the neck and the other had her by the tail. I didn’t know Jack could run that fast. He was on them so fast,” she added. Kitty was rushed to the vet, and although injured and shaken up, she still made it and lives happily ever after with her friend, Jack, and pet mom Sheeree.

By the way, she has no doubt that that Jack’s motive in rushing the coyotes was to save his little friend. Even though a trapper has set traps to catch the wild coyotes in the area, Jack the pitbull still stands guard and keeps an eye open… Just in case.

What a hero!

#1. One Lucky Duck

When ducks get trapped under the ice surface, things can usually end pretty bad… But not in this case! In this special story, the day was saved by a human being.

This good-natured Norwegian dude saw the little fellow’s despair, and didn’t think twice before jumping in for the rescue. The duck had somehow managed to get himself stuck under ice, and being confused and disoriented – couldn’t find his way up to the surface.

As soon as our hero identified the situation, he took off his clothes, dove into the cold water and broke the surface of the ice, setting the duck free. Once released from under the ice, the duck was placed safe and sound on the river bank.

One thing is certain: This duck now has quite a tale to tell…
